The course at Los Arqueros on Saturday welcomed the first lef of the Costa del Golf Tour, an amateur tour organised by SUR and its leading publication, Costa del Golf.
More than a hundred players gathered on the Marbella course to fight for a place in the grand final, which will take place at Guadalmina on 27 July.
The tournament, played following individual Stableford rules, will see the top six in each category in each of the four tournaments have direct access to the final.
In this first leg, sponsored by Acosol, José Antonio Benítez Domínguez, Antonio Arjona Martín, Juan Gómez Toro, Eduardo Delgado Rojas, Yaan Acosta Raluy and Juan Grau Gómez qualified in the first category, while Lucas Blanco Arjona, Alejandro Carballo López, Roque Orellana García, Baldomero López Lobillo, Francisco J. Muñoz Blázquez and Damián Serrano Sánchez progressed from the second. As for the women, Gudalmina Elena Mushita, Jann Margot, Inna Bladen, Krip Svetlana Valentinouna, Maria del Pilar Alonso Rodriguez and Dominique Delvaulx have secured their passage.
The course at Los Arqueros was looking its best and this was commented on by many of the participants. Moreover, the conditions for golf were ideal, with some breeze and a pleasant climate. Los Arqueros is the first golf course on the Costa del Sol designed by Severiano Ballesteros. As the designer himself said, Los Arqueros is a good course for players of all types, a reasonable challenge for the average golfer and a difficult test for professionals. Surrounded by steep mountains and only ten minutes from Marbella, the impeccable fairways of Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club are found amid a spectacular mountainous landscape where players enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of the Mediterranean. Opened in 1991, Los Arqueros is a challenging 18-hole par 71 course.
After the opener on Saturday, the Costa del Golf Tour will continue across Andalucía. The second leg will also be this month, on 30 June, when participants, organisers and collaborators will come together at El Paraíso Golf, an 18-hole par 71 course. The route through this beautiful scenery offers both a challenge and a reward for golfers of all skill levels. El Paraíso has wide, easy fairways surrounded by palm trees, pines, oleanders and olive trees with meandering streams and two magnificent lakes. The selection of the club for each stroke is of vital importance. In addition, to master the challenges presented you need a touch of skill on the greens.
Just a week later, on 6 July, the third round will be held at Alcaidesa Golf. Alcaidesa is located in an incomparable setting. It has two magnificent golf courses: Alcaidesa Links and Alcaidesa Heathland, with a total of 36 professional holes with spectacular views of the sea, the Rock and Africa.
On 21 July, the Costa del Golf Tour will stop at Cabopino in Marbella, at the easternmost end of the town. It has a par 71, 5,170-metre course, designed by the architect Juan Ligués Creus. It offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean, as well as vegetation with broad crowned pines that honour the course's name.
Finally, on 27 July, the grand final will be held at Real Club de Golf de Guadalmina.
Registration for any of the remaining legs is still open. Through Oferplan you can book your place for 65 euros for each one, or 179 euros for all three.
