With a game to go, all is still to play for for Marbella FC as they pursue qualification for next season's Copa del Rey.
Thanks to goals from Añón and Jürgen, a distrastrous campaign, turned around just too late by David Cubillo since the turn of the year, could still end in glory. Seventh place will be enough and a 2-0 victory against bogey team UCAM Murcia helped the side to rise into that spot for the first time this season.
A first half low on action
Captain Añón gave his side the lead in the 22nd minute when he took advantage of a defensive mix-up to latch on to a ball over the top before firing it past the keeper.
This was by far and away the highlight of a first half punctuated by consistent fouling and during which the keepers touched the ball much more with their feet than their hands.
UCAM, chasing promotion, were prompted into quick action after the break. Coach Juan Merino made a double change and the effect was felt almost immediately.
Marbella keeper Wilfred had to be sharp to send Onwuque's effort out for a corner and again, moments later, when the resulting corner almost flew straight in.
The match certainly livened up as a spectacle in the second half and it was Marbella who always looked most likely to get the next goal.
Paulo Vítor was denied by a fine save from Parreño after Samu Delgado fed the Brazilian after beating two men himself.
The exciting attacker then had the crowd on its feet when his strike cannoned back out off the post.
However, it wasn't until stoppage time when the goal finally came, with Jürgen registering a typical poacher's finish.
This goal could prove crucial as it moved Marbella ahead of San Fernando on goal difference with the sides' head-to-head record identical.
Marbella travel to Jumilla on the final day on Sunday (kick-off 6pm), knowing that a win will secure their place in the illustrious knock-out competition next year.
