It is going to go down to the wire for Malaga Femenino, who must win and hope their rivals fail to do so on what will be a nerve-wracking season finale for the Liga Iberdrola.
This comes despite Antonio Contreras' side picking up an unexpected away draw against heavily-fancied Athletic on Saturday. Malaga went some way towards avenging the 9-0 defeat suffered eight years previously, keeping the Basques at bay throughout a first half in which the visitors looked most likely to score.
Athletic struggled to get out of their half and Ainhoa was by far and away the busier of the two keepers. However, as has been the case for much of the season, Malaga failed to convert chances into goals and in the second half, the side from Bilbao could have taken the lead themselves, but for a phenomenal save from Chelsea to thwart Nekane.
Despite the point, however, results elsewhere went against Contreras' side and they go into the final day bottom of the table but still within touching distance of salvation.
Malaga Femenino take on fellow strugglers Rayo Vallecano on Sunday at the Malaga Football Federation ground (kick-off 1pm) knowing that only a win will do, regardless of whether outside help is forthcoming.
