  • The Casino Admiral Trophy, part of the ATP Challenger Tour, is taking place at Puente Romano tennis club until Sunday

Local tennis star Alejandro Davidovich is through to the semifinals of the Casino Admiral Trophy after a hard-fought 6-4 3-6 6-1 victory over Brazilian Thiago Monteiro on centre court at Puente Romano tennis club on Friday afternoon.

His path to the semis has not been entirely plain sailing. On Tuesday, the youngster from Rincón de la Victoria cruised to a 6-3 win in the first set against Federico Gaio before the Italian fought back to claim the second and put Davidovich's progress in doubt. However, the 19-year-old kept his composure after a blip in the third to win 6-3.

It was much more straightforward on Thursday afternoon, however, when he raced to a convincing 6-2 6-0 win over fellow Spaniard Carlos Taberner.

Another early exit

Marbella-born Adrían Menéndez is one player whose fortunes are not going so well. Menéndez (141st in the ATP rankings), who is involved in organising the tournament in his home town, crashed out early once again, losing on Tuesday in the round of 32 to unfavoured Italian Raul Brancaccio (390th), 6-4 7-5.

Tickets still available

Davidovich will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, and will take on second seed Pablo Andújar who saw off Gianluca Mager, 6-3 6-2.

Tickets are still available online ( for 25 euros. Entry for the final on Sunday can be purchased for the same price.
