Standing their ground against Levante, the third-placed side that scored seven goals in their first round match, was never going to be easy for Malaga Femenino. This is why their 1-0 defeat at home at the Federación ground on Sunday is not such bad news.

This game was nothing like the sides last encounter. Malaga went out to defend their goal and prevent a repeat of their previous thrashing. Their plan worked; they closed the gaps at the back and goalkeeper Chelsea played a decisive role, saving at least two clear goals.

The points however went over to the visitors thanks to the goal - arguably offside - scored by Alharilla in the 38th minute.

Despite passing the defending test, Malaga failed to find their way towards their visitors goal. Pamela made several shots, but all of them too hurried and without success.

Weve competed against a team made to win the league and we had our chances to draw, said coach Contreras after the game.

This loss takes Malaga to the bottom of the womens Iberdrola league, in 16th place, with just 17 points after 24 games. Their next game is a vital one as they play away to fellow strugglers, 15th placed Madrid CFF, on Sunday 24 March.
