Malaga Femenino remain in deep trouble at the foot of the Liga Iberdrola after a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Andalusian rivals Sevilla in the regional capital on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Chelsea was the only visiting player to leave the Estadio Jesús Navas with any credit despite conceding a deluge of goals. She was rigorously tested throughout Wednesday's clash, and was called into action early on to block Raquel Pinel's effort with her feet.
Sevilla controlled the midfield with Nagore Calderón and Karen Anaya pulling the strings but it wasn't until the 40th minute that they found the breakthrough. American forward Tony Payne latched onto a pass from Amparito after some good wing play on the right and finished past Chelsea who could do nothing to stop it.
After relatively strong resistance in the first half, the floodgates opened in the second, with Payne doubling the hosts' lead, tapping into a virtually unguarded net from the penalty spot.
Raquel Pinel then converted Karen Anaya's corner at the near post to make it a quickfire double and 3-0, before another quick flurry of goals from Jenifer and Payne in the 64th and 66th minutes, respectively, ended the tie definitively.
Malaga had a clear chance to nick a consolation but Patricia Mascaró was denied by a superb save from Noelia Gil who, despite having very little to do, gave an assured performance.
The Blue and Whites sit in 15th place, joint bottom with Logroño but ahead by virtue of their better head-to-head record.
