Villanovense and Marbella played out a goalless draw on Sunday in a match that will not last long in the memory of the 1,600 people inside the Estadio Municipal Villanovense.
Besides the lack of goals, the quality of the football was low, there were few attempts on goal, and even when the hosts stepped on the gas in the closing stages, the Marbella defence stood firm.
The hosts carved out the first chance of the game when Xavi Puerto met the ball at the back post but couldn’t get his effort on target.
Just before half time, at the other end, Juanma was left appealing for a pull as he failed to get on the end of a cross from the left.
The dynamic of the game slowly started to change after the break as both coaches started to tweak their lineups.
The result was more shots but very few were in danger of troubling either goalkeeper until the final 15 minutes when both sides took a more direct route to goal.
The best chance fell to Xavi Puerto after Marbella keeper Wilfred had to intervene to cut out José Ramón’s cross, but the forward couldn’t apply the finishing touch.
This brought an end to a game that neither side deserved to win.
