A goal from Jürgen made it four wins in five games for Marbella as they saw off Sanluqueño at the Antonio Lorenzo stadium on Sunday.

The hosts, who fielded four winter signings from the start in a 4-1-4-1 formation, had the better of the first-half action, controlling large portions of the play and having the better of the chances.

Brazilian winger Paulo Vitor was a particular menace to the Sanluqueño defence, using his pace and trickery to trouble the full-backs on both sides of the pitch who were lucky to get away without being carded for persistent fouling.

Despite one half chance for veteran Dani Güiza at the other end, the best chances fell to Marbella attacker Juanma. The first brought a good save out of keeper Javi Jiménez as he connected with Jürgen's cross from the left; the second saw him miss the target after being put through on goal five minutes before the break.

The game was completely different in the second 45 with the hosts unable to maintain their expansive play, instead patiently looking for any opening they could find.

It finally came in the 58th minute when Juanma again ran in behind the backline, before squaring the ball for Jürgen who was waiting on the penalty spot to convert at the second time of asking.

Sanluqueño, as they had to, came back into the game and Dani Güiza was denied an equaliser when Wilfred pushed his volley out for a corner.

The onslaught continued and the Marbella keeper had to be sharp to deny David Toro's freekick.

Dani Güiza came close again from a tight angle but narrowly missed the far post.

Marbella, however, were able to hold on and preserve their lead and their climb up the table continues. Los Blanquillos sit in tenth and with the form they're in, they could be in with an outside chance of finishing in the play-off positions come the end of the season.
