The Fuengirola Potros are facing up to the most important period in the club's history as the side is set to embark on life in Spain's top division.

Following promotion from the Liga Andaluza (of which they have been champions several times), the Potros will make their American Football Serie A debut this Saturday away to the Granada Lions (4.30pm).

However, though the season is yet to begin, the change has not been easy and has needed a huge financial investment, paid in part by the players. "We are very happy that we are about to compete in the big league. It is going to take a lot of hard work but I'm sure it will be worth it," said club president and player Gabriel Cantero.

Subscription for the league alone costs 8,000 euros while increased travel costs must also be factored in.

Serie A is divided into four groups by location. In the Potros' group are the aforementioned Granada Lions, LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons and Murcia Cobras. After playing these sides twice, plus two intergroup games (at home to Mallorca and away against Coslada Camiones), the top eight teams will fight for the title in the play-offs.

This season the aim is to consolidate their place in the big league with one eye on the future. For the first time, the club will field a junior team for players between 16 and 19.
