Hurricane Leslie held off long enough to allow Malaga to shine on Sunday as the side showed for the first time that they belong in the first division.

Unlike in previous games when the side showed their quality in glimpses, Malaga looked strong from start to finish against Espanyol, just rewards for the 400 or so fans who chanced it in face of the weather.

The opener came in the 29th minute when Natalia's cross was not properly cleared, falling to Dominika who fired it in on the volley against her former club. This cued enormous celebrations around the Malaga Football Federation ground, akin to those when promotion was sealed, such was the feeling of relief at getting the first goal of the season.

Chances continued to fall to the home side with captain Adriana one of the biggest culprits.

Pamela struck a post before local girl María Ruiz scored a magnificent solo goal to double her side's lead in the 38th minute.

Malaga's control of the game was almost absolute until the 87th minute when a loss of concentration allowed Eli to get a goal back for the visitors.

However, the win was sealed and see Malaga leap up two places into 14th place. Current bottom side Logroño are the side's next opponents on Sunday.
