It's a done deal. Malaga will once again host the basketball Copa del Rey, it has been announced, after the city hall, the Junta de Andalucía regional government and the Diputación provincial authority agreed at a meeting in Malaga on Monday to pay the more than one-million-euro fee to host the tournament in 2020.

It will be the fourth time that the tournament has come to the Palacio de los Deportes (after 2001, 2007 and 2014) and represents a large cash injection for the province. As the biggest basketball tournament to take place in Europe, it will attract a large number of visitors to the city in February, right in the middle of low season.

What's more the choice of Malaga is a popular one among players, given the facilities available to them and the easy transport links.

Though not yet official, the confirmation of the city as host of the 2020 Copa del Rey will be ratified at the general assembly held just before next year's edition.
