Following the signing of Badr Boulahroud last week, Malaga are stepping up their recruitment drive and are close to completing moves for Renato Santos and Stole Dimitrievski.
A deal for Renato Santos, who arrived at Malaga Airport on Monday, has already been agreed and the Portuguese winger is set to complete a medical and sign his contract in the coming hours.
At 26, Santos, who joins from Portuguese first division side Boavista, is expected to slot straight into the starting eleven on the right-hand side of midfield given his reputation for operating in tight spaces and breaking down the type of compact defences Malaga will regularly take on in Segunda this coming season.
A graduate of the famous Sporting Lisbon academy, Santos was shipped out on loan to Rio Ave, Moreirense, Deportivo Aves and Tondela before completing a free transfer move to Boavista in 2015.
Since then, he has made 91 appearances in the Portuguese top flight, scoring 14 goals.
A commanding keeper
If all goes to plan, Renato Santos will not be the only arrival at La Rosaleda this week. Nastic’s Macedonian goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski is also close to completing a move, according to Cope Málaga and various Catalan news outlets.
At 1.88 metres tall, the Macedonia international is the commanding stopper Malaga have identified to replace Roberto whose loan from Espanyol concluded after Malaga’s relegation.
According to reports coming out of Tarragona, Dimitrievski could cost in the region of one million euros.
The 24-year-old has played in Andalusia before having represented the reserve teams of Cadiz and Granada, before being promoted to the latter’s first team while they were still in La Liga.
Following that fateful season, however, Dimitrievski signed for Segunda side Nastic, keeping 14 clean sheets in 48 appearances last season.
Dimitrievski will compete for a starting place with Andrés Prieto (who was Roberto's deputy last year), with youngsters Kellyan and Álvaro Fernández waiting in the wings.
Turkish keeper Cenk Gonen, who was third choice last season, is expected to complete a return to his homeland imminently.
