The Benalmádena Darts League (BDL) held its trophy presentation ceremony in Benalmádena Costa on Tuesday night. The event, which was held in, and sponsored by, Capone's Bar, was attended by players from the 15 teams that competed in the winter league, which ended last month.
The BDL has been running for 20 years and comprises of mostly British expat players who compete in two separate leagues on a Tuesday night.
More than 30 trophies were awarded in categories such as the men's and ladies singles champions, the highest checkout and the most 180s hit throughout the season.
The Beer Garden C finished top of League 1. They also scooped the Gold Cup and came second in the Champions league. One of the team's star players, Wayne Dunn, collected trophies for the highest checkout (151), while also sharing the prize for most 180s hit (6) with Chris Simpson, from The Paddington.
League 2 was won by The Beer Garden's B team.
The pub has one of the best track records in the league and has collected an impressive cabinet of silverware over the years: this is the sixth time the C team has finished top of League 1.
Other teams to pick up trophies were Sam's Sports Bar, who took runners up trophies in the Silver Cup and League 2; and The Mad Monk, who triumphed in the Champions League.
Chairman of the BDL, Alan Fitzgerald, said: “The standard of darts is incredibly high. The Beer Garden C is probably the most consistent team, as is demonstrated by the amount of trophies the players have won this year.”
