The resignation of Malaga academy director Antonio Tapia on Thursday has added further uncertainty around the club, creating yet another vacancy that needs filling. Despite the success of the women's and reserve teams, staff and players continue to wait for owner Sheikh Al-Thani to appoint a new head coach, sporting director and chief executive. Now he must also find someone to oversee the club's youth players.

Former first team coach Antonio Tapia announced his resignation, citing a desire to go back into coaching, although the uncertainty created by the imminent departure of sports director Mario Armando Husillos, is understood to be key to his decision to stand down.

Head coach shortlist lengthens

Following the club's failed attempts to take on Juan Ramón Muñiz as general manager (combining head coach and sporting director roles), several more names are now on the table. One of them is local man Esteban Vigo, although Cadiz coach Álvaro Cervera has also been named as a potential option.

However, nothing can be done without the approval of the sheikh who seems to be biding his time.
