Excellent start for Spanish tennis players across all categories at French Open

  • Spain's Garbiñe Muguruza and Rafael Nadal have both gotten through the round of 64 with ease

It's still very early on in the French Open, which is currently under way in the Roland Garros Stadium in Paris, but Spanish players have had a very strong start in the tournament.

On Wednesday Pablo Carreño Busta (10 seed) defeated Federico Delbonis in four sets; Roberto Bautista (13) won in straight sets against Santiago Giraldo; and Fernando Verdasco (30) also confidently saw off Guido Andreozzi in straight sets. However Carla Suárez (23), G. García Pérez and Lara Arruabarrena all lost.

On Thursday, Spain's top female player, Garbiñe Muguruza (3), defeated unseeded French opponent Fiona Ferro 6-4, 6-3. Rafael Nadal (1) was on fine form and effortlessly outplayed Argentine Guido Pella, winning 6-2, 6-1, 6-1. Alberto Ramos-Viñolas also defeated Norwegian Casper Ruud in straight sets.
