Malaga's search for a new head coach is about to be over. After last Friday's defeat to Deportivo La Coruña removed all hope of salvation, club lawyer Joaquín Jofre and sporting director Mario Husillos are keen to finalise the search in order to get ahead with planning for next season.

After being turned down by his primary target, Juan Ramón Muñiz, Husillos has been shortlisting and sounding out alternatives. His major criteria are experience in Segunda and enthusiasm for the project.

It is understood that the list of candidates has been reduced to two and that Husillos will meet with the pair in person before deciding who to offer the job to.

Though the club expects to have chosen a candidate by the end of the week, he will not be officially named until safety is mathematically impossible, likely to be in match day 33 when Malaga face Levante, primarily out of respect for current head coach José González who would see his contract renewed for another year if he keeps the club in the elite.
