British schoolboy rugby fanatic, Spike Parsons, is celebrating this week after his team, Club Rugby del Estrecho, reached the Under-14 Andalusian National Spanish Championships.

Originally from Sutton Coldfield, 13-year-old Spike began playing rugby at the Rugby Tots Academy in Estepona when he was just four years of age and he now plays scrum half and captains the under-14 team, of which he is the only British member. This season he has led his team to their very first league championship; beating the likes of Marbella, Jerez de la Frontera and Portuense along the way.

The finals are divided in two groups and will be held in Ciudad Real on 14 and 15 April.

Spike, who was chosen for the team because of his speed, agility and ferocious tackling skills, told SUR in English: “It is absolutely amazing to have been selected to play in the Spanish Championships; it is the start of my dream to play for the Spanish national side.”
