  • Añón, Ferrón and Juanfran scored in a comfortable win over Granada B in a game littered with injuries

Marbella opened up the gap between themselves and fifth and moved to within a point of leaders Cartagena (who lost to Villanovense) after a resounding 3-0 victory against Granada B on Sunday.

Though there was not an abundance of chances to be had, Fernando Estévez's side controlled the tie with their fluidity and organisation.

They opened the scoring after just a quarter of an hour after Indiano’s freekick from range rebounded around Granada’s penalty area before Añón could apply the finishing touch.

Rioja and Corpas, so often Marbella’s biggest threat down the wings this campaign, were not at their best - nor did they need to be. Granada were allowed to keep possession of the ball, but the hosts martialled them well and stopped them from being at all effective.

Just before half time came the second goal. Corpas, surging down the wing on the counterattack, then squared the ball across the face for Ferrón to tap in unmarked.

The visitors made a double change at half time with Juancho and former Marbella man Casi entering the fray, but neither could change the course of a half punctuated by injuries which affected the flow of the game.

The first, surprisingly, was suffered by referee Orellana Cid, for whom the game had to be delayed by five minutes. Without a fourth official at this level, he was forced to play on.

More significantly for Marbella, key men Ferrón and Rioja limped off with knocks.

However, with 15 minutes remaining, Marbella made their control count and Juanfran slotted past Lejarranga’s left hand into the corner from the penalty spot to end the game as a contest.

This was his second goal of the campaign and vindicated the club’s decision to reject interest in him from other clubs.

Five minutes later, Añón was also gifted a wonderful reception by the home fans as he was replaced by new signing Álex Bernal.

Marbella’s other significant action in the January window saw the recruitment of Peris;the full-back played the full ninety minutes.

Next up for Los Blanquillos is a trip to the Canaries to face Las Palmas B.
