Marbella secured an emphatic victory in Villanueva de la Serena on Sunday as they nullified one of the divisions fiercest opponents on their own ground.

It wasnt the most attractive of performances but it was certainly effective as goals from Carlos Julio, Catena, Ferrón and Sergio Narváez sealed all three points.

Both sides, though, found it hard to get going at first, however it was the visitors who carved out the first chance through Ferrón who was denied by keeper Leandros foot in the one-on-one.

After a quarter of an hour, Marbella started to dominate the ball in the midfield but were unable to convert this pressure into chances. That was until the 36th minute when a partially-cleared corner landed to Carlos Julio who spectacularly volleyed his side into the lead.

Minutes after the restart and Marbella had doubled their lead with Catena heading home Luis Riojas cross from the right.

This dampened spirits within the ground but there was further damage to come four minutes later when Villanovense were stung on the counterattack by a through pass from Sergio Narváez which set Ferrón through to poke past the advancing keeper.

At this stage the hosts were all over the place, as demonstrated by Javi Sánchez carelessly losing the ball to Rioja who ran at the defence before giving an easy tap-in to Sergio Narváez against his former club.

The Extremadura side resorted to long-ball football in the closing stages but Marbella, well in control, were able to soak it up.

Marbella go into the winter break in third place, just three points off leaders Cartagena.

Segunda B action resumes on 7 January.
