  • With blue skies and a healthy turnout, last year's wash-out was quickly forgotten

With the disappointment of last year's event still fresh in the mind, conditions couldn't have been any better for the Zurich Maratón Málaga which took place on Sunday.

The marathon, whose route took in all of the city's major sites, brought together a total of 45 different nationalities and on this occasion it was the Kenyan athletes who stole the limelight with Mike Kiprop and Nancy Coech completing a double in the men's and women's categories, respectively.

Kiprop, who recorded a time of 2 h 13:12, came within just two seconds of the record set by his compatriot John Kipkorir in 2014, while Coech, with a time of 2 h31:55, broke the previous Malaga marathon record by more than six minutes.
