A last-gasp goal condemned Marbella to a 2-1 defeat against promotion rivals UCAMMurcia at the Municipal stadium on Sunday.

The Costa del Sol team had dominated the game but the visitors ultimately proved more effective in front of goal and enjoyed the rub of the green more than once from the referee.

Though neither side was happy with the officiating, Marbella were punished unduly: denied a clear penalty in the 15th minute when Fran Pérez took down Chus Hevia and also had a legal goal from Corpas chalked off.

The first half was punctuated by breaks in play but Marbella were by far the most purposeful in their play. However, UCAM came out stronger after the break and in the 50th minute, Jony scored a headed goal after a neat move.

However, less than a minute later, Marbella were level courtesy of a strike from Ferrón on his left foot.

Marbella, though, couldnt get a second with Ferrón, Corpas, and Añón all guilty of passing up clear chances.

With stoppage time approaching, Lolo Pavón was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, to the dismay of fans who considered both fouls to be soft.

The team from Murcia, at this stage without their manager who also received his marching orders for protesting, took full advantage of the space created by Lolos absence to net the winner through Jony.

This was one of our best matches of the season, but the lack of cutting edge is what cost us, Marbella coach Fernando Estévez remarked following the game.

The defeat leaves the Blanquillos in third place, level on points with Sundays rivals who are in fourth place, three behind leaders, Cartagena.

Marbellas next game is against Villanovense this Sunday at 5pm in Romero Cuerda.
