Santa María Polo Club will, until Sunday, play host to the Copa SotoEstates competition. The 7-8 handicap tournament is the first phase of the Iberian Polo Tour - an initiative which aims to promote Sotogrande as the ideal location to play this sport, even during the winter months.

Four teams will participate in this weekend's competition, each fielding a number of international names. The games will be played on fields one and three at Puente de Hierro.

Spanish polo player Pelayo Berazadi is the man behind the Iberian Polo Tour, which first started in 2011. After a break, it is now back, with the objective of promoting the good climate and excellent installations Sotogrande can boast which allows for polo to be played all year round and not just in the summer. Normally many European players head to Argentina during this period to benefit from conditions also found in southern Spain: good weather and modern facilities, in this case just a couple of hours away.

In the cup which is being contested this weekend at Santa María Polo Club, the following mixed teams will be participating: White Falcon Mago (made up of Katherine Reihmer, Juan Ignacio González, Mario Gómez and Carlos Piñal), SotoEstates (José María Ponce, Pedro Beca, Enrique Barroso and Pelayo Berazadi), Biarritz (Verónica Desmas, Laurent Desmas, Rosendo Torreguitar and Patricio Neves) and Bonhill (Xavier Cunill, A. Ayesa, Matt Evetts and J. Connelly).

The first two games will take place today, Friday, at 3pm and 4.15pm. The second matchday is on Saturday with a further two games at the same times.

On Sunday, meanwhile, the third-place playoff will take place at 11am and the final at 12.30pm. Entrance for these matches is free.
