  • A five-goal debut for Alex Hughes was the highlight as the Lions followed up defeat with a win in Seville

Fuengirola Lions got their defence of the Liga Sur under way in Seville on Saturday with a match against Roller Murcia, who came third in the International Tournament held in Fuengirola in September.

Willy Ericsson put the Lions ahead, assisted by 14-year-old Veikka Viskari, but fast-skating Murcia overran the Fuengirola team who had some significant absentees and pairings playing together for the first time. The game ended 7-2 to Murcia.

For the second game Veikka was ruled out with a fever, butnew signing Alex Hughes was able to make his debut against Troyanos de Villarrobledo, playing in the league for the first time.

Alex started strong, scoring five goals in his first game, as the side won by a comfortable 11-5.

The next round of Liga Sur games will be played in Fuengirola on 25 November. Entrance is free. Fuengirola will play three games that day.

This coming weekend the junior Liga Andaluza starts with games in Fuengirola from 9.30am at the Santa Fe de Los Boliches rink.
