  • The town's mayor, Ana Mula, will be present to open the new rink at Santa Fe in Los Boliches on Saturday

Local inline hockey team, the Fuengirola Lions, will this weekend host the eighth international inline hockey tournament, with a total of ten participating teams. Because of growing interest from abroad, local sides Málaga, Marbella and Sevilla are unable to compete this time.

In addition to the two sides which make up Fuengirola Lions, Lions and Barona, the participating teams come from Finland (two), Belgium (one), the United Kingdom (one) and further afield in Spain: Murcia Rollers, Sancti Petri, Buhos and Águilas.

Besides the great weather and atmosphere, a new attraction for the teams will be the ice hockey boards from Finland installed during the summer break to increase safety for both players and spectators.

What’s more, mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, will be in attendance to open the new rink, at the Santa Fe sports centre in Los Boliches alongside representatives from the Andalusian Federation and Liga Sur.

The tournament gets under way this Saturday at 9am and will run until 9.30pm. Sunday’s matchday will be slightly shorter from 11am, with the final starting at 6pm.

Cheerleaders will provide extra entertainment. Entry to the tournament is free.
