  • Marbella beat San Fernando 1-0 at home on Sunday - a goal from Chus Hevia in the second half was enough separate the two sides

After defeats in the league and the Copa del Rey last week, Marbella hoped to return to winning ways on Sunday and they did just that with a narrow, but important victory.

Marbella were weak against Segoviana in the Copa del Rey last week; the team were flat and worst of all, lacking in identity. Estévez made five changes to the starting 11, but the first half on Sunday was no improvement.

The visitors looked in control and they thought they had taken the lead when Pedro Ríos converted with a header after some fantastic attacking play from Javi Casares. The linesman, however, had raised his flag for offside - a let-off for Los Blanquillos.

The home side did not have a single shot at goal in the first half; the visitors stretched the hosts and only luck kept the scoreline level before the break.

Marbella looked like a different team after the break. They created more chances in the first five minutes of the second half than they did in the entire first 45. Corpas and Chus Hevia were the most influential players, the latter scoring the decisive goal.

In the 60th minute, Chus Hevia picked up a loose ball, which he fired past the visitors' keeper Doblas in spectacular fashion. The hosts looked for the second, but despite some excellent crosses whipped in by Corpas, nobody was able to convert and the game ended 1-0.

Marbella play away to Granada B in the league on Saturday at 18:30.
