Spain’s most renowned cycling event La Vuelta begins on Saturday (19 August) in the French town of Nîmes.
The race consists of twenty one stages and totals a gruelling 3,324.1 kilometres, ending on the 10 September in Madrid.
The race will once again pass through the province of Malaga this year in the following stages: Motril-Los Dólmenes de Antequera (31 August) and Coín-Tomares (1 September).
Luis Angel Maté, from Marbella, will again be competing in the Vuelta this year, his sixth to date.
After three weeks of hard training in the Sierra Nevada, Maté travelled to Nîmes this week to take on La Vuelta.
Maté gave his thoughts on the upcoming challenge, “I am starting the race with a lot of hope and the intention of making this a great Vuelta for myself”.
