Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-0 at the Bernabéu on Wednesday night to win the Supercopa 5-1 on aggregate.
It was an excellent first half display from the Spanish and European champions, who made Barcelona look inferior in intensity and desire.
Twenty-one-year-old Marco Asensio gave Madrid an early lead with a thunderous 25-yard strike in the 4th minute.
Madrid continued to mount pressure on the Catalonian side and Lucas Vázquez almost doubled their lead with his effort in the 33rd minute being denied only by the post.
Soon enough, Madrid were two up as Karim Benzema scooped up Marcelos cross and slotted it in the bottom right past a helpless Ter Stegen.
Barcelona did improve in the second half. Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi both hit the woodwork as Madrids comfortable lead caused them to ease off. However it was a case of too little too late for Barça and a deserving Madrid lifted the trophy.
