In the aftermath of Saturdays defeat to Lazio, Malaga head coach Míchel confirmed that he was interested in adding Zenit defensive midfielder Javi García to his squad. He said: I spoke with him yesterday. Its looking good. Were just waiting for the final OK [from the owner].
However, within hours of the press conference, Al-Thani took to Twitter to say: With my respect to the player Javi Garcia it is not our target for Málaga cf so please close this door (sic).
Despite publicly undermining his man in the hotseat, he later added: I trust [Míchel] and I believe he make big team so please I do not want anyone [saying] there is no trust between me and the coach.
It is understood that Malaga are now pursuing a move for Argentinos Juniors midfielder Esteban Rolón, while Javi García looks set to complete a switch to Andalusian rivals Real Betis.
