Rafa Nadal crashed out of Wimbledon in spectacular style on Monday, losing an epic battle with Luxembourgian Gilles Müller after almost five hours of play.

The Spaniard was applauded off the court despite losing 6-3 6-4 3-6 4-6 15-13 in what was the fifth longest set of his career.

Defeat ended the Spaniard's bid to win back-to-back French Open and Wimbledon titles for a joint-record third time.

There was better news for Garbiñe Muguruza, though, who progressed to her second Wimbledon semifinal after beating Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3 6-4.

Her semifinal will be played on Thursday.
