Malaga centre-back Martín Demichelis announced his retirement from football at the age of 36 in an emotional press conference earlier today.

Demichelis only rejoined the club in this year's January transfer window, but has decided to call it a day after a 17-year professional career.

"I have to be honest with myself. My legs have gone and I have lost my powers of concentration," the 36-year-old stated.

The central defender also thanked the club, his teammates and head coach Míchel and also added that he would be a Malaga supporter from now on, having had two stints at La Rosaleda, the first of which was between 2011 and 2013.

Demichelis' illustrious career has also seen him represent Bayern Munich and Manchester City, while he also won 51 caps for Argentina.
