The victory over Barcelona seems a distant memory now for Malaga after they were brought back to reality following a 2-0 defeat to Deportivo de La Coruña at the Estadio Riazor on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue and Whites seemed comfortable in possession without serving up much penetration in the first period, before second-half goals from Joselu and Pedro Mosquera checked Malagas progress in recent weeks.

Both sides defences dominated the opening exchanges, with Deportivo and Malaga taking turns in enjoying the lions share of possession in the first half an hour.

Roberto Rosales left-footed strike from outside the box after 30 minutes, which was comfortably dealt with by Germán Lux, was the first attempt from either side, but it seemed to liberate both sides and proved to be the catalyst of action before the break.

Carles Gil should have done better from a curler two minutes later after a mistake from Luis Hernández, with Carlos Kameni always behind the effort, before Juankar cut in and was denied by Lux six minutes before half time.

The first half had been a disappointment, but the start of the second period gave the match its much-needed impetus. Luisinhos cross two minutes in was converted by Joselu, who held off the weak challenge of Hernández to head past Kameni for his first goal in over a month.

The goal saw Míchel ring positive changes by sending on Keko and Jony for Chory Castro and centre-back Luis Hernández. Unfortunately for the Blue and Whites, it was the 54-year-olds counterpart Pepe Mel whose changes paid off, with substitute Pedro Mosquera tapping home from Watford loanee Juanfrans cross to double Deportivos lead with just over twenty minutes to play.

Malaga churned out a couple of opportunities before the end, which could have set up a nervy finish for the side who had not won since their victory against Barcelona in mid-March. However, Deportivo survived the scares as Sandros shot on the turn was comfortably claimed by Lux before Ignacio Camachos dipping effort crashed against the bar a minute later.

Malaga will have to wait until Saturday to get back to winning ways, with Valencia the visitors to La Rosaleda before a visit to Granada completes the double game-week.
