There were very few names in the hat of candidates to replace the outgoing Carlos López, sacked as first team delegate by Sheikh Al-Thani earlier this week. However, one name that had unanimous support was that of Josemi, who returns to the club almost 13 years after joining Liverpool.
The former full-back, 37, has hung up his boots for good after spells in Greece and India. He is a former teammate of head coach Marcelo Romero and sporting director Francesc Arnau, who put his name forward for the post.
After his spell in England, during which time he won the Champions League, Josemi speaks English so will be able to bridge the gap between the first team and the owners in his new role as first team delegate.
Known as a hard worker, his appointment has gone down well not only with the squad, but in other departments of the club, according to SUR sources.
