The winter window may have only just slammed shut, but Malaga already have eyes on summer business. While the squad is full at present, the club's sporting director, Francesc Arnau, is already planning for when loan agreements come to an end and when players' contracts expire.
The striking department in one area set to be affected, with Charles' contract up in June and speculation surrounding the future of Sandro Ramírez. For that reason, the club are looking at Lugo striker Joselu, the current top scorer in the second division with 16 goals.
The 25-year-old is enjoying the best season of his career so far, leading Lugo to playoff contention. The former Villarreal academy graduate made 11 appearances for the top-flight side, before dropping down a division to find more regular football. After spells with Cordoba, Recreativo and Mallorca, he joined Lugo in 2015 and has scored 21 goals in 43 appearances.
Known for his pace and trickery, Joselu is equally adept at playing as a number 10 or as a more conventional number nine.
His contract is also up this summer, so Malaga are looking to steal a march on their rivals by moving quickly for his signature, much in the same way they did to sign Jony from Sporting at this time last year.
