Marbella began 2017 with a draw in Huelva on Sunday in a tie that did no favours for either side’s aspirations in the league.
Nafti’s side made life difficult for themselves from the start, despite controlling possession in the first few minutes. Guille had a scare in the fourth minute when his attempted clearance rebounded off Núñez and nearly ended up in the back of the net.
In a frantic opening period, Marbella were able to enter the opposition box with relative ease, with Kike Márquez leading the charge. Javi Cantero handled in his box after five minutes, but the referee judged that the action was accidental.
Recreativo drew first blood in the ninth minute, when Antonio Domínguez latched on to a great pass from Miguelito to score. The visitors could have equalised just four minutes later, but Andrés shot wide after a cross from the right. The home side began to dominate, with Guille saving from a one-on-one with Núñez.
Recreativo were threatening mid-way through the first half against a Marbella side completely devoid of ideas. Antonio Domínguez came close to doubling his tally as his shot drifted wide and the first half ended with the visitors fortunate to be just a solitary goal behind.
Nafti brought on Luis with half an hour to go in order to reinforce the right side of their attack, which ultimately led to the equaliser; Carlos Julio swung in a great cross for the unmarked Damián Petcoff to head home.
Pavón, the Recreativo coach, reacted with a double substitution as his side changed their mentally in their hopes for a winner. Dani Molina and Sedeño entered the field as the game levelled out. Marbella were more organised in the latter stages but neither side was able to clinch victory in a game which had draw written all over it.
