Spain received criticism from the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, this week after the main leader of the opposition in the Latin American country left the protection of the Spanish Ambassador's residence in the capital, Caracas, and travelled via Colombia to Madrid.

Leopoldo López, who opposes the controversial Socialist regime of Maduro, met with Pedro Sánchez on Tuesday at the PM's PSOE-party HQ and not on Spanish government property.
