Temperatures soared around Spain on Thursday with thermometers going above 40 in several areas including Madrid, Zaragoza and inland Andalucía.

Closer to home, on Friday, the Spanish weather agency Aemet issued an amber weather warning for high temperatures in the province of Malaga for Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures could reach 43ºC in the Guadalhorce Valley, it warned.

Readings of more than 40ºC are also expected in several other regions of Spain, including the northern Basque Country.
