UK government advises against all non-essential travel to the whole of Spain, including the islands
  • The government said the advice was based on evidence of increases in cases of Covid-19 in several regions

The United Kingdom extended its advice against all non-essential travel to Spain to include the Canary and Balearic Islands as well as mainland destinations on Monday afternoon.

The British government said in a statement that the advice was "based on evidence of increases in cases of Covid-19 in several regions, but particularly in Aragon, Navarra and Catalonia (which include the cities of Zaragoza, Pamplona and Barcelona)".

The statement comes two days after London announced a 14-day quarantine requirement for anyone arriving in the UK from Spain and advised against all non-essential travel to the mainland.

Anyone already on holiday in Spain however has been advised to continue with their stay and quarantine on return.
