The daily Covid-19 fatality figure went down again in Spain on Thursday to 268, 57 fewer than the previous day. This takes the national total up to 24,543, according to official figures offered by the government.
The number of coronavirus cases (those confirmed by PCR tests) in Spain was at 213,435 on Thursday, 1,309 more in 24 hours and down on the 2,144 cases reported on Wednesday.
The total of confirmed Covid-19 patients having recovered from the disease was at 112,050 on Thursday. This was an increase of 3,103, fewer than the record 6,399 cured patients reported on Wednesday but still more than twice the new cases.
Madrid and Catalonia are still the regions with the highest numbers of deaths related to Covid-19, with 141 reported from Wednesday to Thursday between them. They were followed by Castilla-La Mancha (27), Andalucía (19), Valencia (18) and Castilla y León (16). No new deaths were reported on Thursday in Galicia, Murcia and Cantabria, one was registered in the Canaries and three in the Balearics and Aragon.
Eighty per cent of the fatalities were patients over the age of 70.
