The ministry of Health will be using a million rapid- test kits in Spain bought from China that a leading medical body says cannot be used "in a routine way".

The Spanish infectious diseases and clinical microbiology society, (SEIMC), says the imported tests don't give reliable results.

Separate tests on the kits have shown that they have 80 per cent accuracy on patients who have shown symptoms for more than a week but only 64 per cent accuracy on those with symptoms for fewer than seven days.

SEIMC is recommending they are only used on patients with five or six days of symptoms.
