A Boeing 747 with 130 passengers on board made an emergency landing at Madrid's Barajas Airport on Monday evening due to damage caused to its landing gear during take-off.
The Air Canada flight AC837 heading for Toronto took off from Barajas just before 3pm.
After it was discovered that pieces of damaged wheel had got inside one of the engines, the plane circled an area southeast of Madrid at low height in order to release some of its fuel before making an emergency landing at around 7.05pm.
Emergency services and Cruz Roja members were ready at the scene to assist if necessary.
The incident came just hours after Barajas Airport was closed for more than an hour on Monday morning after a drone was detected flying in the area.
