Gibraltar Strait drug crackdown gets results

The government has been giving details of its success on the first anniversary of a crackdown on drug trafficking in the Strait of Gibraltar.

According to the Interior ministry, 4,852 people have been arrested in the last year, 149 tonnes of drugs have been seized, mostly hashish, and 759,000 multipack cartons of cigarettes.

Some 2,761,000 euros were found and 750 vehicles supposedly used by gangs were impounded, of which 133 are boats.

The number of operations against drug trafficking has increased 78 per cent in the last year.
