News emerged this week of a striking discovery of drugs on a passenger who had just arrived in Spain.
National Police said that at the end of June they detained a man at Barcelona Airport who had flown in from an unnamed Colombian city. He was found to have half a kilo of cocaine hidden under his wig.
Officers were carrying out routine checks on passengers getting off flights that are considered high-risk for drug smuggling when a man, who looked like a tourist, caught their eye.
Not only did he appear unduly nervous but, officers said, "he had a strangely-sized wig".
On closer inspection they realised that under his hat he had the odd-fitting hair piece that could have been hiding something illegal.
A search revealed a packet with 503 grammes of a white, powdery substance "perfectly struck to his head", presumed to be cocaine.
