The Spanish association of brewers has published a report saying that almost 80,000 jobs exist in the Andalusian region because of beer. It reports that nine in ten of those jobs are in the hospitality industry, where 40 per cent of takings come from beer.
The beer manufacturers said that when the sales of their product go well, there are significant positive knock-on effects for the catering sector, tourism and agriculture. Beer is the top seller in the 35,000 food and drink establishments across the region.
Some 60,000 hectares of land in Andalucía is used to grow crops of barley, the data shows, with an annual harvest yielding 250,000 tonnes. The different brewers in the association produced 850 million litres of beer in Andalucía last year.
