The Princess of Asturias, heir to the Spanish throne, spoke in public at an official event for the first time on Wednesday. Princess Leonor, eldest daughter of Felipe VI, was celebrating her thirteenth birthday and the king and queen have been slowly increasing her public profile in recent months.

The princess's birthday coincided with the fortieth anniversary of parliamentary ratification, ahead of a referendum, of Spain's post-Franco constitution and she read a part of it out loud during the commemorative event.
