Earlier this month the gruesome discovery was made of a man's body at the base of the lift shaft at Madrid's large La Paz general hospital.
The body was fully dressed, carried no identification but had a master key to the lift shaft, explaining why it had been so easy to open the lift doors. But it was a complete mystery how the unrecognisable man had got there and who he was.
He was found on 10 July by lift technicians who were investigating strange noises, which it turned out were from the lift hitting the man underneath.
After days of drawing blanks, a missing persons report and forensic investigation has solved the case. The man is a retired construction worker with knowledge of lifts, but why he was there remains a mystery.
