A former Spanish prime minister has joined the international advisory board of a new free trade think tank set up by arch-Eurosceptic Tory politician, Daniel Hannan.

José María Aznar, who was conservative PP leader and prime minister of Spain from 1996 to 2004, will be one of the brains behind the Institute for Free Trade (IFT).

The IFT says it “makes the intellectual and moral case for free trade, and sees Britain's withdrawal from the European Union as a unique opportunity to revitalise the world trading system”.

Aznar is known for his free trade and conservative views and is also a member of the board of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation.
