An Infoca specialist firefighter died this Thursday afternoon, 9 September, when he was tackling the Sierra Bermeja fire, which has spread the municipalities of Estepona, Benahavís, Jubrique and Genalguacil.
The deceased was 44 years old, and belonged to a crew from Almería. He had extensive experience in extinguishing fires, having completed six years with Infoca.
It is believed he was caught in fire as he tried to slow down its advance with his fellow companiions.
The deceased was part of the operation involving more than 400 people who continue working to control and extinguish the file. Of these, 300 are part of the Plan Infoca brigade.
