The mayor of Torremolinos, José Ortiz, recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Habitat Alborán development to be built near the seafront in the area known as La Cizaña.

Ortiz was accompanied by the local councillor for Town Planning María Isabel Tocón, and numerous representatives of Habitat Inmobiliaria, including CEO José Carlos Saz and the manager for Eastern Andalucía, Víctor de la Puerta.

During the ceremony a capsule was buried containing that day's newspapers, coins and information about the project and Torremolinos, as well as a CD by local pop group Danza Invisible.

The Habitat Alborán development will include more than 230 homes, as well as pools and gardens, involving an investment of 90 million euros.

The project has been created by HCP Arquitectos and will be constructed by the building firm Verosa.

Ortiz said, "It's encouraging and exciting to see investment at a time as complicated as this.

"We have to keep working with the private sector to develop opportunities."
