In the next few weeks a new path will be added to the area around Monte Gibralfaro in Malaga, linking the English Cemetery with the city's iconic castle.

The 330-metre-long route, named the Cañada de los Ingleses path, will be incorporated into the Gibralfaro forest park network, totalling almost five kilometres of footpaths.

Forestry work and preparation of the terrain (the removal of rocks) began last month, with an investment of 15,700 euros.

This was announced by the councillor for Environmental Sustainability, Gemma del Corral, during a recent visit to the work.

"This will add a new route into the forest area and improve accessibility for local residents. It will act as an invitation into nature from the heart of the city centre," she said.

The path will begin on Calle Cañada de los Ingleses, just behind the English Cemetery, and will lead to the castle and its surrounding viewpoints.

Stone steps have been created from the land itself, to facilitate accessibility in the steeper areas.

The project also includes a six-metre-long wooden footbridge to overcome some difficult terrain and two small viewpoints from which the bay can be seen.
