After years of complaints from regular users, central government has put a project to repair the road surface on a 28-kilometre stretch of the A-7 between Marbella and Fuengirola out to tender.
The project has a budget of eight million euros and an estimated completion period of two and a half years, due to the need to carry out the work in phases to allow use of the dual carriage to continue.
As explained by the Ministry of Transport, this renewal of the road surface, which will also benefit sections that run through Mijas, is the result of a prior needs study.
"This project means the dual carriageway's useful life will be extended, and the comfort and safety of users will be improved," it said.
When the scheme was first announced earlier this year, it was welcomed by local mayors who were concerned by poor visibility on some stretches and the high accident rate.
